New Tourism Venture on Hope Island Moves Forward

Strengthening Community Through Sustainable Tourism

T̕łat̕ła̱sikwa̱la First Nation is taking an important step toward building a sustainable, community-led economy with the development of a new tourism business on Hope Island. The project will introduce visitors to the Nation’s homeland through immersive, land-based and ocean-based experiences that reflect local culture and the natural beauty of the territory.

Creating Opportunities for Community Members

The initiative is designed to provide long-term employment and skills training for T̕łat̕la̱sikwa̱la members. Plans include seasonal and year-round roles, mentorship for youth, and training programs that help community members gain experience in tourism, guiding, hospitality, and outdoor operations. Supporting people and building capacity is central to the Nation’s long-term vision.

Partnership Brings Local Knowledge and Tourism Expertise Together

To support the project’s development, T̕łat̕ła̱sikwa̱la First Nation is partnering with Coastal Rainforest Safaris, a company with decades of experience in wilderness tourism on northern Vancouver Island. Additional support is being provided by the 4VI Social Enterprise Group, helping guide planning, operations, and business development.

Investment in a Sustainable Future

With financial support from Island Coastal Economic Trust and Coast Funds, the Nation has been able to advance the design and construction of a permanent eco-camp on Hope Island. The multi-day nature experience will focus on culture, stewardship, and respectful interaction with the land, aligning with the Nation’s values and long-term vision for economic growth.

Honouring Land, Culture, and Future Generations

Hope Island is a place of deep cultural significance for T̕łat̕ła̱sikwa̱la First Nation. Developing a tourism business on these ancestral lands is an opportunity to share stories, teachings, and the natural environment with visitors in a respectful and guided way. As the project grows, it will help support community members today while building opportunities for future generations.
