Gilakas'la

Welcome

We are the descendants of the T̕łat̕ła̱sikwa̱la, Nakumgilisala and Yutlinuk peoples. Our Territory covers the lands and waters of northern Vancouver Island in British Columbia Canada.

Our home village is at beautiful Bull Harbour on Hope Island.

Our peoples originated from spiritual places in our Territory, places we hold sacred today. Our peoples numbered in the thousands until contact with sailing vessels 200 years ago. We had no immunity to the introduced diseases. Today the survivors number 65 and we are working hard to re-build our community.

Bull Harbour, Hope Island is CLOSED to the public.

No one is permitted to come ashore at this time. To do so will be considered trespassing.
Be aware there are wolves roaming on Hope Island.

Who We Are

T̕łat̕ła̱sikwa̱la First Nation is one of the Kwakwaka’wakw Nations, with deep ancestral ties to Hope Island, Cape Scott, and the surrounding waters. These lands and waterways hold our history, our families, and the teachings passed down through generations.

Our culture, Kwak̓wala language, and traditional knowledge continue to guide our path forward. We honour our responsibilities to our territory and work to support a strong, connected future for our community and members.

Our homelands are on Northern Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada.

The four corner posts of our territory are Triangle (Scott) Island and Sea Otter Cove to the west and Pine Island and Balaclava Islands to the east. Explore our territory and the surrounding area below...
